Type 2b Construction
Type 2b constructionIt s a very commonly used construction type and type iib has no fire resistance requirements for any of the building elements provided that there is adequate fire separation distance as laid out in table 602.
Type 2b construction. Types l and 2 construction shall be further classified as type 1a 1b 2a 2b or 2c. All buildings shall be classified in one of the five construction types which are defined in sections 602 2 through 602 5. In buildings or structures of types l 2a and 2b construction partitions of a single thickness of wood or approved composite. For example in a type i building we will see columns and beams covered with fire resistive spray on material as seen in the first picture.
Type i fire resistive type ii non combustible type iii ordinary exterior protected type iv heavy timber type v wood frame. Fireretardant treatedwood shall only be used as specified in table 602 and 780 cmr 2310 0. The easiest way to define a type ii building is that is has the same structural characteristics as a type i in that it is non combustible construction. Type ii iia and iib with noncombustible steel or concrete structural framework walls and floors type ii is similar to type i but requires lower fire resistance ratings.
Building constructed of non combustible materials but these materials have no fire resistance. To classify for a specific construction type the building elements must have a fire resistance rating not less than that specified in table 601 and table 602.
